The HIMSS Chapter Advocacy Task Force informs, empowers, and mobilizes chapter leaders to advocate for health information and technology public policy at the state, provincial, and local levels. Our goal is to expand the NC HIMSS Advocacy Program and help educate our members and be a voice for patients. Advocacy members provide legislators and staff with content and context regarding pertinent issues. Our focus is to inform and become the subject matter resource for elected officials and staff who are transforming health for constituents in our state.
As a chapter committee for Advocacy we will focus on:
- Research: We conduct nonpartisan analysis and research, and gather information through community conversations, focus groups and more.
- Education: We educate lawmakers to help create a modern public health ecosystem
- Power Building: We leverage individual and collective influence around issues through nonpartisan political messaging, letter writing campaigns, coalition building, and relationship building with government officials, staff and other community leaders.
- Monitoring: We monitor legislation, policies and practices to identify advocacy and partnership opportunities.
NC HIMSS cannot serve as a PAC but can assist with learning and educating on the issues of priority
