The end of one year and the beginning of the next is a time for reflection for many, including myself. During this year, I’ve had many successes, some challenges, and of course, just like everyone, some very difficult days. Thankfully, the successes and great days always outshine the challenging ones. A highlight of my year was becoming president of the North Carolina HIMSS organization.
When I volunteered to assist a few years ago, I never thought I’d be the chapter president. Since becoming president in July of this year, we’ve continued to walk along the path of being an amazing representation of the professional members of this organization. Do we have challenges? Yes, but just like in my own life, the successes far outweigh those challenges.
On July 1, I was handed an incredibly well-run chapter with a board that always thinks strategically and a membership that remains incredibly involved. Our focus this year has been on providing professional growth and education opportunities, growing and engaging our membership and taking an introspective look at our diversity and inclusionary practices.
The fall conference in Winston-Salem saw incredible sessions, speakers, and representation from the many providers, vendors, and members that rely on NC HIMSS for valuable continuing education and networking opportunities.
These efforts have paid off!
I am proud to announce that the North Carolina chapter has been recognized by the national HIMSS organization in the Bronze Chapter Award Category, solidifying our position as one of an elite group of chapters. While we are excited about this award and our place among the best chapters, we remain committed to our efforts to make our chapter better than ever for our members.
To our members, thank you for being the best of the best. To our provider members and professionals, we remain grateful for the never-ending work, long hours, and excellent care each of you helps provide people in their darkest days. The thanks can never measure up, but we will continue to try.
On behalf of the board, thank you for a great year, and best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and the happiest New Year!
Leslie Cothren, President, NC HIMSS
