John P. Hoyt is Executive Vice President Emeritus, HIMSS Analytics at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, the largest U.S. not-for-profit healthcare caused-based organization focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of information technology. While a full-time Executive Vice President, John was responsible for providing executive leadership and direction to HIMSS Analytics worldwide where he also provided direction for all Stage 6 and Stage 7 validations and derivative research. Now as EVP Emeritus, he continues to conduct Stage 6 and Stage 7 validations, conduct consulting engagements globally and is the principal architect and interpreter of the revised acute care EMRAM standards which were announced at HIMSS 2016 in Las Vegas for use in 2017. John will be presenting, Acute Care EMRAM Changes for 2018 on Wednesday, May 3.
The EMRAM is 12 years old .. we have recognized that it is time for an update … The EMRAM is also an international standard, so we have incorporated some considerations that meet needs elsewhere in the world. Plus, when the EMRAM was first devised, security requirements were not included, but our environment has changed significantly since then. John Hoyt will walk through each Stage of the revised acute care EMRAM and detail what is new for recertifying and newly validated Stage 7s starting in January 2018

Join Dan and Boyd as they take you through the journey that they are still on, and discuss what worked and what did not on Thursday, May 4.
Dan Bruno began his second career with Duke Health System in October 2010, and has been the Chief Operating Officer for Duke Health Technology since June 2011. He is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and was commissioned in the United States Army. Dan later earned a Master’s degree in Information Resources Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. During his nearly 30-year career with the Army, Dan served in a variety of leadership positions and commanded at the company, battalion, and brigade unit level. Dan culminated his military career as a Colonel and as the Garrison Commander at West Point, home of the United States Military Academy.
Boyd Carlson is the Chief Enterprise Architect at Duke Health Technology Solutions at Duke Health. His recent work has been to formalize the IT strategy development, planning and architecture processes to provide a foundation to connect to and support the ever-changing business strategy. Boyd was trained as a software engineer and architect, and has worked in healthcare IT for 34 years. His experience ranges from developing application architecture to leading a wide range of application teams in clinical and financial areas.

His unique education in biomedical engineering, physiology, clinical informatics and internal medicine has allowed him to work at the intersection of those fields to positively impact patient care and health system efficiency. Currently serving as Chief Product Officer for clinical cognitive science company Jvion, John’s work has been recognized with cross-industry awards like ComputerWorld’s Premiere 100 IT Leaders and health IT awards such as the CHIME Collaboration Award. Dr. Showalter is dedicated to using his passion and knowledge to ensure that Jvion’s machine has the maximum positive impact for patients.
As administrator of business systems and member of the senior Health IT leadership team at the University of Virginia Health System, Leigh Williams oversees applications teams, in-house software and mobile application strategy and development, and the transformation of the organization’s service management strategy. Formerly director of revenue cycle and health information management at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), Leigh has extensive experience in healthcare revenue cycle and operations. Leigh currently serves as the Membership Chair on the Board of Directors for the Virginia HIMSS chapter.
