What are the CAHIMS and CPHIMS certifications?
The CAHIMS and CPHIMS certifications demonstrate an individual’s expertise and experience as a health information and technology professional. In a field experiencing vast change, it’s important to possess a standard body of knowledge and an up-to-date skillset. HIMSS certifications show you’re well informed and well prepared for what’s next in your career.
The Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS) certification demonstrates a solid foundation for early careerists or those with other areas of focus that will give you an advantage as you strengthen abilities, acquire more experience, and advance your career path.
The Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) is a certification program for experienced professionals, acknowledging and honoring their proven expertise and commitment to the field and to continuing professional development

Special Interest Groups (SIG) Update
NC HIMSS is organizing SIGs in areas such as cybersecurity and informatics. A special interest group, or SIG, is a community within a larger organization with a shared interest in advancing a specific area of knowledge, learning, or technology. Members cooperate to produce solutions within their particular field. As these SIGs are formed, NC HIMSS members will have the opportunity to join in the dialogue! More to come in the next newsletter and on our LinkedIn website.
Organizational Affiliate Highlight
What is an organizational affiliate? Healthcare provider organizations or agencies and colleges or universities with a health information and technology program can join HIMSS as Organizational Affiliate (OA) members. The HIMSS OA program extends educational and networking benefits for all of employees/staff and offers the opportunity for everyone to join HIMSS at no additional cost, including local chapter membership. If your organization is an OA, it is simple to sign up at www.himss.org/oa-signup using your OA-related email address.
